For in the valley where fell her starry adornments
There grew a land of great harmonious rhythm
Of liberated soulful dreams and luminescent nature
The land of magic itself if magic ever begun
This land was called Zirit for those true of spirit
It held charms, enchantments, miracles to stun
And so Bora the enchantress left a legacy for realms
Such as was neither seen nor known to but none

It was almost midnight in the land of Zirit. As the clock struck twelve, a bird with dark-blue feathers and a black beak flew deftly over a sleeping town. The suburb snored as one, lost in figments of what might be dreams or nightmares, wrapped imperviously in the velvet of the night. The bird soared higher at the town edge, swerving into a wide arc toward the rear of a huge castle. Here, it perched upon a silhouetted tree, still as a statue. As the moon shone on its face it neither blinked nor moved. It was blind.

Novels

Lori of Zirit: Book 1

When her grandfather is killed, Lori finds herself suddenly stranded and alone. She must travel through the fantasy land of Zirit, leaving behind the little hamlet where she spent her entire childhood, in search of safety and answers.

The journey she embarks on introduces her to an intriguing world she barely knew existed. Here she encounters many magical Tribes and Creatures – each with their own distinctive traits – and uncovers the workings of Emerald or nature-based magic that stems from Earth, Air, Fire and Water.

But before Lori can settle in with her new friends, she finds herself transported to the non-magical realm of Yudland (our world) – and facing the perils of Ruby magic – a dark evil that threatens to destroy all that Zirit stands for.

In this enchanting, fast-paced adventure where a new thrill awaits at every turn, Lori must not only travel back to Zirit – her home – but also discover the origin and extent of her own unique magical powers.

LORI OF ZIRIT – BOOK ONE of SIX

Inky clouds embossed in an eerie glow shrouded an ominous crescent moon, that flickered over a grove of Sakoya trees in the Zinolin Jungle, where a pride of Yuri lounged in languid dalliance. A distant lull that originated from the ebb and flow of the Zinta river chimed over their lazy muzzles and full bellies. Sounds and cries of a rich variety, emanating from creatures of many an ilk, echoed throughout the lush verdant coverture of Zinolin. Adults of the Yuri pride squatted away Flying-fluffs as they lay on the soft earth, while the younger ones scampered about, playing their usual games. Some distance away, hidden from their view, a pair of bloodshot eyes observed their every movement thirstily from the elevated foliage of a Baobab tree.

Poetry

Kirtika started her writing journey with Poetry and has a collection of fifty poems she has written as a child, teenager and young adult. The poem below is one of her favourites.

Fantasy

Give me the radiance and spirit
To dance without music or pain
Give me resilience to sense
Luminous drops of falling rain

Make me a ceaseless boulevard
Redolent with drunken beams
Make me a supple kaleidoscope
Embossed with hues of my dreams

Give me a carpet of roses
To walk on, amidst falling snow
Give me laughter in doses
That makes my face ache and glow

Make me fall back asleep, at morn,
Just to finish my dream
Make me want to run in the breeze
And feel as light as cream

Give me the kind of feeling
That cannot be expressed aloud
Give me the kind of feeling
People can only write novels about.

Short Stories

Kirtika has a growing collection of short stories, each with an unforeseen and curious twist in the end!

“As she opened her eyes, Kinshu looked out and saw far away a Willow tree and what were her clothes –  a pale heap on the ground. There was no sign of the quill. She was amongst exquisitely shaped green leaves on a vast blue expanse that was smooth as glass. The moonlight sent silver ripples on the sea waves and also her body – which glistened and sparkled beyond anything else around her. She could see colours she did not even know existed. She felt the freedom of the being, she felt its silent candour. And she sailed into the brilliance of the night – an enchanted sea-stallion.”

The Sea-Stallion

“On an awry autumn eve
There floats a lone dream
Amid a blanket of green
Upon a fluid sapphire symphony
All but fail to compare
To its lush magnificence
A creature so nuanced and rare
It could only arrive through
Some kind of strange mishappence
The sway of this salient being
Has a queer sort of magic
One commanded by a baron
A monarch of the giant seas
A pious, steadfast stallion
If only I could feel its sovreignty
I wish I was the Lord of the Seas
I wish I was the Sea-stallion!”

With rhyme in every line and wonder in every twist, this lyrical tale celebrates courage, compassion, and the spark of magic found in everyday choices.

Jazmin and the Pixie Dust

In a tiny village called Knogg
Stood a house of brick and log
Here lived a family of four
Flora, Jazmin, Mr. And Mrs. More

Julian More had a mystical mind
His wife Lilian, gracious and kind
Baby Flora lit up their world
Jazmin kept it in a twirl

On the day Jazmin turned nine
She decided that it must be time
To procure her most favourite treat
From the makers themselves to eat

But this was no easy task
For Jazmin loved a Maizin flask
Butter cream and yogurt in honey
Made Maizin for lots of money
